Confidence Series: Feel More Confident Interviewing

Interviewing can be a daunting experience, but with the right approach, you can confidently walk into your next interview and leave a lasting impression. As a Talent Acquisition leader, I'd like to share three strategic points to help you feel more at ease and perform your best during interviews.

1. Prepare Thoroughly

Preparation is key to feeling confident. Give yourself enough time before the interview to research the company’s mission, values, and culture, and understand the role you’re applying for. Dive into the latest company news, check their social media, and learn about who you’ll be interviewing with. This will help you tailor your responses and success stories to align with the company's needs and demonstrate your genuine interest.

2. Review and Practice Interview Questions

Use common interview and role-specific questions to refine your answers. Stay on topic and ask your interviewer if they want to hear more about your examples. Share concrete examples that showcase your skills and achievements. Preparing your own questions is equally important. Show your interest by asking about the team, company goals, and next steps in the hiring process. Remember, you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you! This is your opportunity to ensure you understand the responsibilities and expectations of the position and that you align with the culture. Role-playing with a friend can help you become more comfortable and articulate. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will feel.

3. Be the Best You!

As a Talent Acquisition Leader and coach, I remind people that the goal of an interview is not about getting the job but being the best version of yourself! You are showing up for yourself and creating a positive impression. Even if you’re not the right fit for this particular role, a good impression can lead to future opportunities.

Remember to be authentic, courteous, and professional throughout the interview process. Arrive a few minutes early and choose attire that matches the company’s culture. Follow up with a thank-you note to express your appreciation and reiterate your interest. This small gesture can differentiate you from other candidates and leave a lasting impact. I remember every person who sent me one.

Each interview is a stepping stone to your next career opportunity, and with every experience, you’ll become more adept at showcasing your strengths!
